Discovering good movies, one bad movie at a time

You know what I miss? High-quality dramatic thrillers. While streaming has ushered in an overwhelming amount of content (mostly bad to terrible) and theatrical releases are now primarily reserved for Oscar bait or Marvel films (I’m only half complaining), my favorite type of film is becoming less and less common.

Thankfully there are films like The Good Neighbor and creators like director Stephan Rick, producer Kia Jam and their teams. They’re holding strong, delivering tense, character driven thrillers made with craftsmanlike care and quality.

I had the opportunity to sit down with Stephan to talk about:

  • Following in the footsteps of George Sluizer (The Vanishing) in getting the opportunity to remake their awarding winning film for English audiences
  • How the original differs from the remake
  • How he was able to create that cinematic look
  • Assembling the amazing cast of Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Luke Kleintank, and Bruce Davison

The Good Neighbor is available now for a limited theatrical run and streaming everywhere! Do a back-to-back watch of the original in 2016 and the remake.
