Discovering good movies, one bad movie at a time

It was so great being able to connect with Spencer Squire to talk about his feature film debut, Abandoned, since we have so much in common – extremely handsome, talented director/actor, and Northwestern grad…oh…wait…we only have one of those things in common.

The school connection aside, I felt an instant bond with Squire within watching the first few minutes of Abandoned that carried through the entire film.

What’s even more bonkers is the fact that this is Spire’s first film; with no sightings of first-time filmmaker pitfalls. It’s beautifully shot with the confidence of a seasoned vet, with scenes being allowed to breathe and build tension without the need for too many unnecessary flourishes.

How does a 30-something actor get the call to direct a feature starring Emma Roberts, John Gallagher Jr., and Michael Shannon? You’ll have to listen to find out!

Catch Abandoned in theaters on Friday, June 17th and streaming everywhere June 24th.
