Discovering good movies, one bad movie at a time

How do you do, fellow kids? We’re on the eve of the release of Bodies Bodies Bodies, a satiric horror film whose trailer is the most shameless goddamn thing ever, urgently promising us that this is The Film Of Our Times, and that it is going to Speak To Its Generation so hard that it looks like it might sprain something. Whether this is going to be good or bad – for the record, I cannot imagine how it could possibly be good, but 98% of critics on Rotten Tomatoes are only somewhat likely to be wrong – it’s by no means the first time that a movie has focused with such overwhelming intensity on capturing the spirit of the culture that birthed it. So we’re taking this opportunity to look our top 5 movies about capturing the Zeitgeist, for whatever the zeitgeist happens to be. Flapper movies in the ’20s, hippie movies in the ’60s, movies about rapacious businessmen in the ’80s – the harder it tries to be Of The Moment, the likelier it is to show up on our list. Share your own picks for the top 5 movies about the Zeitgeist for a chance to win a free Amazon movie rental!

And wait, there’s more! This is going to be a very special episode – with Rob and Carrie out wandering the Earth, Tim is going to be joined by a couple of guests. Alternate Ending’s own Brennan Klein and Mandy Albert will be coming on to share their lists and endure Tim’s unrelenting attempts to destroy the fabric of the show with off-color non-sequiturs. Be sure to check out the episode when it goes live next week!

This week, Tim is joined by Brennan and Mandy, as Rob and Carrie are out of town. Sandwiched between the release of movies like They/Them, Bodies Bodies Bodies, and Not Okay, which are all attempting to tell the story of The Youth Today, we’re discussing our Top 5 movies about the zeitgeist!
