Believe it or not, Alternate Ending has been around for five years in its current form, and the three of us – Rob, Carrie, and Tim – thought it was high time to make some tweaks to our Patreon structure. We have some ideas for things we’d like to add to the site, but as it is, we’re lucky to break even in a good month, and they’re not all good months, sad to say. So we’re adding some cool new features for Patreon supporters, all of which go into effect on June 1, 2022.
Maybe the biggest of these, one that readers have been asking about for years now, is that I’ll be writing Classic TV reviews, exclusively for Patrons. I’m not a big fan of hiding things behind paywalls, but on the other hand, I’m a movie critic, not a TV critic, so we decided we could live with this one thing. As you might have noticed last week, I started off with season 1 of The X-Files, and the pilot episode is open to everyone to give you a taste of what to expect; after that season is wrapped up, I’ll be taking a break by switching to a different series, one that I’ll be inviting all the readers of the site to choose for me! This feature will be available as part of the new Emmy Award tier to all readers at the $3 level and above, so it’s only about 75 cents per review, and what else can you get for 75 cents these days.
Also for readers at the $3 level, we’ll be offering Early Access to classic movie reviews. That already includes the Summer of Blood, now in its second week, and starting this week it will also include Blockbuster History. Plus, we’ll continue offering early access to any other reviews that crop up for films that were released in the United States at least one full year ago.
And I’m not the only one who’ll be offering new perks. Brennan will also be offering himself up the whim of Patreon supporters who want to request reviews. First up is our new Saturn Award tier, where for $8/month, you can request a movie for Brennan to discuss on the Worth Mentioning segment of the podcast.
Or for just $2/month more, you could jump up to our new Fangoria Chainsaw Award tier, and request a movie for Brennan to write a written review!
The complete new list of Patreon tiers with their associated perks is as follows. A huge thanks to those of you who are already supporting the site, and if you’re not yet, we’d love it if you took this moment to consider joining our Patreon community. All the money we make goes right back into the site, and we hope you’ll join in to help keep Alternate Ending healthy now and for years to come!
