Discovering good movies, one bad movie at a time

Prepare yourself for some serious self-refection when you see the newly released Sci-Fi/Comedy Save Yourselves! The film brings a fresh perspective into our massive over-usage of mobile technology, not in a way that makes you feel punished, but that makes you think about balance.

Save Yourselves! Interview

We sat down IN PERSON! at Sundance this year (holy smokes that feels like a lifetime ago), with the filmmakers and cast of Save Yourselves! Writer/Director Eleanor Wilson and Alex Huston Fischer, were such a delight, despite making us feel like absolute dinosaurs.  We also chatted with Sunita Mani (GLOW) and John Reynolds (Search Party, Stranger Things) who really bring the cutest (and most realistic) couple dynamic. We felt so lucky to get this whole crew together to talk about Save Yourselves! – they were all so sweet and funny and they’re perspectives on the movie were so fun and interesting.  We really could have chatted for hours… but we needed to take a break to grab an Ensure and grab an afternoon nap.

A bit about the movie

Save Yourselves! follows the story of a Brooklyn couple, Jack and Su, who just like you (yes you) are addicted to their phones.  An event occurs that leads them to acknowledge their addiction to “being connected” and that instead, it’s leaving them disconnected.  The realization pushes them to rent an isolated cabin in the woods, vowing to not use technology for a week.  Sheltered from the outside world, Jack and Su are blissfully unaware that the planet is under attack. As strange events unfold, the couple must figure out a way back to civilization—or what’s left of it.

Of course the post-viewing conversation led us to access our own relationship with technology and admit that, we too, need to scale back.  I’m happy to report that we’re down to only 8 hours of phone screen time a day.

The movie is now playing in select theaters and releases on Digital and Blu-ray on Tuesday, October 6th!
