THE DEATH OF THE LAST GREAT STUDIO IN HOLLYWOOD

It’s no surprise, especially after the news yesterday morning, but as of the end of Tuesday’s business day, Disney bought Pixar.

There is one and only one way that this can end well: Disney observes that ever Pixar film has been either a modest success or a full-fledged blockbuster, and chooses not to fuck with them. They continue to let the Pixar writers and animators work with full autonomy. The only problem is, if this was their desire, why buy the studio at all?

If there’s any hope at all, it’s that Steve Jobs wouldn’t do anything to damage Pixar, and surely this must be a good deal if he signed off on it.

Also, Jobs basically owns Disney now, and that can only be a good thing.
