I don’t know what this is supposed to achieve, politically. The 72% of Americans who don’t approve of the President right now aren’t going to change their minds just because he actually finally took some measure of blame for anything ever. At least I hope not. Because the Gulf Coast is still in ruins, whether Bush admits fault or not.
What worries me right now is that he was addressing this issue in the context of the government’s preparedness for another major terrorist attack. I can’t help but worry that this means they’re laying the foundation for a new and nastier Patriot Act sequel. “Gee, if only we’d had cameras installed in every black person’s home, we could have saved all of those poor folks in Mississippi.”
