POST-ELECTION ROUNDUP SPECTACULAR

What a nice thing to wake up to:

In Texas, a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage was overwhelmingly approved.

Fuckin’ reds.

But not all is doom and gloom in America this brisk autumn day. Kaine won the Virginia gubernatorial race (and who can claim to be surprised? But it’s still good). The vicious, vicious New Jersey race ended with Corzine trumping Forrester (AWCCTBS?BISG).

Yeah, NYC remains tightly in the clutches of the Republican party, but I think we can consider that to be a safely “blue” state for right now.

In what I presume is good news for those of us who want America to drift somewhere back to the left of medieval Europe, all of Schwarzenegger’s referenda died on the vine. I don’t really know what the details are on these, but I expect that Cameron will tell me if anything bad has happened in that state.

From Roy at alicublog, the most important story of the morning, and therefore the one that won’t get any press at all: the Kansas Board of Education voted to “change the definition of science to allow for non-natural explanations” of evolution. Or, to put it another way, “science” now means “not-science” in Kansas. Fuckin’ A.

Smarter people than me will spend a lot of time breaking down what this means and how on earth we’re going to fix it, so I won’t go into it. But this is the most important issue in America right now, and I wanted to at least mention it, because it really does seem to have been buried in the crush of news from the elections.
