Les Misérables

Having some time ago promised that my tour of adaptations of Victor Hugo’s masterpiece Les misérables would at some point extend to hit a few of the most important of the French films of that novel, I am pleased to announce that this summer, the first Tuesday of every month will see just such a review, starting tonight, with the 1958 film directed by Jean-Paul Le Chanois, starring the legendary Jean Gabin.

Why such an arbitrary “first Tuesdays”, you might reasonably ask? Simple. I’ve been trying to get this started for a while, and as “final Fridays” became “final Sundays” became “first Sundays”, all without me finding time to watch three hours and eight minutes of sad French people, I latched onto the first day I could keep open. Blogging, the eighth art.
