I HEARD THE JURY WAS STILL OUT ON SCIENCE

From Bad Astronomy Blog, the latest anti-scientific outrage: NASA no longer gets to be accurate. (Read the whole thing; it has actual information, while I’m just going to rant).

Apparently, cosmology is a religious issue in the eyes of a 24 year-old pissant PR flack who was dropped into NASA by none other than our beloved president. He’s circulated a memo suggesting that “theory” be appended to any and all appearances of the phrase “Big Bang.” I don’t really know – my understanding is that the Big Bang model of cosmological origin does have some competition, but that it’s much the likeliest of every extant theory. And it’s certainly better supported than “God made two great lights—the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars.” And I don’t know, but I always thought the job of a scientific agency was to support good science. Happily, NASA has already denounced this memo, but still, we’ve finally seen the creationists move their anti-evolution dog and pony show out of the world of biology.

The worst part – the very goddamn worst part – is that this fuckwit is my age. I thought the younger generation was supposed to be more reasonable and informed than those who came before us. This “George Deutsch” character is giving my demographic a bad name.

Hat tip to Jack for telling me about it.
