On this first day of August, 2008, Antagony & Ecstasy turns three years old. And what a big year it’s been – graduating from being one of those little blogger fellas read only by his friends and a few link buddies and the odd Google searcher tweaking on X, to being a member of the god-damned Online Film Critics Society. I try not to let it go to my head. Anyway it’s hard to be arrogant when you have so many people informing you that you’re clearly too stupid to breathe because of your distaste for 300.

Following my past custom, here are my picks for the best posts I’ve written through the last 12 months:

August, 2007 – A Catechism in honor of the tremendously miserable Rush Hour 3.

September, 2007 – I compare Good Luck Chuck unfavorably to testicular cancer, while Pat “Souljacker” King serves up one of the most LOL-worthy comments in the blog’s history.

October, 2007 – I remain frightened by just how much I really did love Elizabeth: The Golden Age, even if it was an ironic love.

November, 2007 – I got two especially generous links for my Bee Movie review. Why, I cannot say, but here I am hanging it out again, trolling for love from my readers.

December, 2007 – Hard to choose: I’m still really proud of my piece on the old adaptations of I Am Legend, but I’m even prouder of the GIF I made for the Alvin and the Chipmunks review.

January, 2008 – For no real reason, I am exceptional happy with my takedown of One Missed Call, out of all the shitty horror films I’ve ever reviewed.

February, 2008 – As the month is bad for movies, so was I bad at writing about them. But there is some stuff in my 27 Dresses piece that I like.

March, 2008 – Again, nothing of much interest. I think the Yi yi TSPDT Top 1000 piece is probably one of the best places where my essay reveals exactlyhow much I loved the movie I’d just seen.

April, 2008 – The Thousand Post Spectacular Spectacular! Okay, sticking only with things primarily composed by myself, what about the conclusion to my celebration of tawdry zombie movies, in honor of Easter?

May, 2008 – The Summer of Blood returns with The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Unquestionably the smartest thing I’ve ever written for this blog.

June, 2008 – My cat and I enjoy some indie shorts.

July, 2008 – I don’t suppose my Batman franchise retrospective is the most significant work of online journalism in history, but it’s probably the most fun I’ve had blogging in months.

For those who have better things to do with their time than re-read old film reviews, here is the classic Muppet song “Mah-nà Mah-nà” in its original pornographic context.
