FRIDAY RANDOM TEN: BETTER LATE THAN NEVER EDITION

Dedicated to the city of New Orleans, the place where American music went to be born.

1. “I See a Darkness, Johnny Cash, 2000. Déjà vu. 7/10
2. “Go Where You Wanna Go,” The Mamas & The Papas, 1969. I’m gonna predict a full-scale M&P revival any day now. Besides, it’s a fun song. 7/10
3. “Would You Like to Take a Walk?” Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong, 1951. It’s Ella & Louis! Not from Ella & Louis, mind, but still fantastic. 9/10
4. “Burn Down the Mission (Live),” Elton John, 1976. Ooh. Clichéd artist, but from his rockin’ period. 6/10
5. “Political Science,” Randy Newman, 1972. More topical then ever, yada yada. Say what you will, the man’s a god. 8/10
6. “Too Many Tears,” Elton John, 2004. Yes, I bought Peachtree Road. Worse still, I like it. 4/10
7. “Little People,” The White Stripes, 1999. From before they were famous, or particularly good. 6/10
8. “For You Blue (naked version),” The Beatles, 2003. From Let it Be..Naked, one of the songs where you can’t really tell the difference. 5/10
9. “Mexican Wine,” Fountains of Wayne, 2003. I should probably be embarassed, having purchased this album at the age of 22. Oh well. 6/10
10. “Whole Lotta Love,” Led Zeppelin, 1969. “Wanna give you my love/Every inch of my love.” Wait, is he talking about…naaaahhhh. 8/10

Average: 6.4/10. About what someone as musically illiterate as I deserves.
