It’s about film critics, but this essay by Geoff Pevere in the Toronto Star applies just as completely to my personal experience as a rabid filmwatcher.
Sample quote: “Apart from depressed teenagers, sociopaths and herding dogs, there may be no more oblivious or single-minded creature in Christendom than the movie critic.”
And this one that immediately made me think of someone who knows who he is, and I’m sorry to say it, but you know it’s only because I love you: “These are people who see more value in having collected every Region 2 Wong Kar-wai import DVD than in having clean bed linen.”
The whole article has nifty little bons mots like that. It’s like looking inna fuckin’ mirror, I tell ya.
