A Woman Under the Influence

I didn’t mention it last month, because oops, but one of the perks of being a regular contributor to The Film Experience is getting to partake in a group Top 10 the first Tuesday of every month. This time around, it’s the 10 best Best Actress Oscar nominees who didn’t win, and while it is a little bit consensus-ey in terms of its creativity, it’s still fun, and you should go check it out.

Because I view every word that drops from my keyboard as too precious to waste, I though I’d also share, sans commentary, the list I submitted:

1. Gena Rowlands, A Woman Under the Influence
2. Celia Johnson, Brief Encounter
3. Barbara Stanwyck, Double Indemnity [on the TFE list]
4. Anne Bancroft, The Graduate
5. Brenda Blethyn, Secrets & Lies
6. Laura Linney, You Can Count on Me
7. Ingrid Bergman, Autumn Sonata
8. Michelle Williams, Blue Valentine
9. Judy Garland, A Star Is Born [on the TFE list]
10. Irene Dunne, Love Affair

Just missed the cut (chronologically)
Gloria Swanson, Sunset Blvd. [on the TFE list]
Edith Evans, The Whisperers
Jessica Lange, Frances
Meryl Streep, The Bridges of Madison County
Kate Winslet, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind [on the TFE list]
