ALWAYS THE SAME. PEOPLE COME, PEOPLE GO. NOTHING EVER HAPPENS.

Finding it inordinately hard to sit in front of a computer these past few days, partially because I’ve been enjoying the last dying gasps of weather that it’s physically safe to walk out in for two months, partially because I’ve simply been feeling too high-energy (and isn’t that a change?). I will eventually have some movie reviews up – I saw Match Point in Los Angeles, and Breakfast on Pluto back in Evanston – and eventually I’ll be putting together a year-end movie wrapup. Promises, promises. I know.

But I did want to bitch about something, if might, and that is that several hours on, I haven’t seen anything on the blogosphere about the imminent death of Ariel Sharon. I have no doubt that it’s a great deal of fun to deconstruct a week-old David Brooks column (damn Times Select, I remember when it only took about 30 hours for everyone to dogpile on Bobo), but there’s fun, and then there’s the most destabilizing event in Israeli politics, and while I understand that none of us can claim to be experts on the Middle East, it still seems curious that nobody’s talking about it whatsoever. There are things outside the endless pas de deux between the American Right and our ever-eroding civil rights.

That said, David Brooks is a fucking idiot.
